BASEBALL GAMEDAY: Tritons Host Flagler in Weekend Series for Home Opener

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd baseball team opens its 2016 home schedule this weekend as the Tritons host Flagler (Fla.) College in a three-game series.

GAMES 2-4: Flagler (0-0) at Eckerd (1-0) | Friday 6:00 PM | Saturday 12:00 PM (DH)
COVERAGE: Live Stats | Live Video
PROBABLE STARTERS: Jack Silberman (5-3, 3.59 ERA in 2015) | Alex Moore (First Career Appearance) | Dillon McCollough (First Career Appearance)

LAST TIME OUT: The Tritons opened the season with 16 hits on Wednesday in a 10-3 win over Webber International.  Kevin Plant (1-0) picked up the win as he tossed four shutout innings and fanned five while Nick Hill blasted the team's first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the ninth inning.  Eckerd scored six runs in the last two innings to blow the game open.

WALK OFF WIN: Eckerd and Flagler met only once last season, a game won by the Saints, 6-5, thanks to a two-out, walk-off single.

FRESHMAN FIREPOWER: Several freshmen stepped up and proved their value on opening day. Mitchell Calandra tripled in his first collegiate plate appearance on the way to a 3-for-5 performance while Nick Conti went 2-for-5.  Jake Romine delivered a two-run single with his first hit in college.

SHUT 'EM DOWN: He didn't enter in a save situation, but senior reliever Taylor Owens picked up where he left off in 2015 by working out of a jam in the ninth inning on Wednesday.  Owens, who notched three saves last year and eight saves in 2014, entered with the bases loaded and escaped by allowing only one run on a sacrifice fly before ending the game via a double-play.

SILBERMAN STARTS: After leading the Triton starting pitchers last season with a 3.59 ERA, lefty Jack Silberman is scheduled to make his first start of the season on Friday night.  Silberman relied on control last season for his success with a 3.3 K:BB ratio and a 1.5 BB/9 average.  He finished the year strong in 2015, earning wins in conference play in his final two starts - including one over No. 4 Nova Southeastern.
