Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Last season, the Eckerd women's soccer faced Palm Beach Atlantic (Fla.) University twice with both matches going into overtime.
Tonight's match was no different.
Eckerd's defensive style of play forced overtime yet again after a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation play. With no overtime success for either side, the match resulted in a 0-0 stalemate for the Tritons' second straight draw in conference play.
"It was a great game for us," EC head coach Danielle Fotopoulos said. "We stayed really organized defensively. We have a history with PBA and that made things exciting but overall it was a great team result."
Though Palm Beach Atlantic (4-4-1, 1-2-1) outshot the Tritons 28-11, Eckerd's defensive approach kept the Sailfish off the scoreboard.
"We stayed patient, starting with Casey [Winn] all the way up to Olivia [Ross-Johnson]," Fotopoulos said. "We had some good chances in overtime and both keepers made some really great saves."
Winn, a two-time SSC Defensive Player of the Week, stopped seven shots in recording her fourth clean sheet of the season.
The Tritons' strongest offensive push came during the overtime periods with four shots on frame, two of which from junior Sydney Tiiman. Ross-Johnson and Kayla Gray also provided a strong offensive presence to the match.
"They held the ball well for us up top," Fotopoulos said. "That composure really helped, but we need to work on taking risks in the final third."
Eckerd (5-6-2, 1-2-2)Â takes the field again on Wednesday, Oct. 12 on the road against the University of Tampa in a much-anticipated battle of the bay.
