ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd Triton women's basketball team returns to action after the holiday break to take on perennial conference power Nova Southeastern on Wednesday at 5:30 PM.

Live VideoABOUT THE SHARKS- Nova enters tonight's game on a seven-game winning streak and is coming off a 63-53 victory over provisional SSC member Embry-Riddle on Saturday. The Sharks jumped out to a 19-point lead at halftime and led by as many as 23 points before the Eagles cut the final deficit to 10.
- Tonight's game will be the first on the road for NSU since November 29. The Sharks rolled off six straight wins during the home stretch.
- The defending conference champions, Nova holds a half-game lead in SSC play over Florida Tech and Florida Southern and a one-game lead over Eckerd and Barry.
- The Sharks top the conference in scoring average (78.4 points per game), field goal percentage (46.9 percent) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.16). Junior guard Taylor Buie leads the team in scoring with 15.2 points per game, although she missed NSU's game on Saturday. Kayla Wright (14.0) and Monaye Merritt (10.5) also average in double figures.
ABOUT THE TRITONS- Eckerd finished the early portion of its schedule with a 7-3 overall record and a 3-1 conference record, putting the Tritons right in the thick of a tight conference race where five teams are separated by one game.
- The Tritons are the conference's top defensive team but will be tested tonight by the SSC's leading offensive team. EC ranks first in the conference in scoring defense (56.0 points per game), field goal percentage defense (32.8 percent) and 3-point percentage defense (27.4 percent). The team ranks sixth nationally in field goal percentage defense.
- Eckerd has shot the ball extremely well from 3-point range over its last four games, going a combined 37-of-75 (49.3 percent) in those contests. The Tritons are 6-1 this season when making six or more 3-pointers and 5-0 when making seven or more.

Margaret Sundberg leads the team in scoring with 11.9 points per game and is shooting a team-best 45.7 percent from behind the arc. Newcomer
Ashley Folsom has emerged as a scoring threat as well, scoring in double-figures in six of her last seven games including a career-high 23 points on December 19 in a win over Paine (Ga.) College.
