Box Score 2 BABSON PARK, Fla. – In their final non-conference games of the season, the Eckerd College softball team split with Webber International on Tuesday taking home game one, 4-2 before falling in game two, 3-2.
Amber Hay made history in game one, becoming the winningest Eckerd pitcher of all-time. Toeing the rubber, the senior struck out four batters while scattering five hits for her 20
th win of the year. Hay now holds the title for most wins in a season (20) and most career wins from the mound (31).
After earning a walk to start out game one,
Carrie Shere swiped her 14
th stolen base of the season and was brought home off a double from
Sydney Dinelli, giving the Tritons an early lead.
The Warriors were able to even the score in the bottom of the third, sending a single through the right side.
Dinelli continued to swing the hot stick belting a two run home run in the top of the fifth. Webber answered yet again, pushing one run across the plate making it a 3-2 ball game.
Catcher
Dana Paul drove in Hay for EC's final run of the game, giving them a two run advantage heading into the seventh. Backed by flawless defense, the Tritons were able to take game one, 4-2.
Game two was a low scoring affair with the Tritons coming out on the short end. Senior
Erin Dixson was tagged with the unfortunate loss, falling to 9-6 on the year.
Webber jumped out to an early lead in game two, pushing one run across in the first. With her team behind her, Dixson then shut down the Warriors until the fifth when they took a two run lead.
Heading into the seventh inning, EC was able to push two runs across with
Kaycie Duncan sending a rocket at the second basemen, forcing an error and scoring Paul and
Kirby Parnell.
The Warriors offense struck in the bottom half of the inning, taking home the victory, 3-2.
Dinelli was a monster at the plate, finishing the day 6 for 8 with a home run, two doubles, and three RBIs while
Rachael Luckett, Dixson and Paul each grabbed two hits apiece.
Eckerd (31-19, 8-13) will travel to Barry University (31-13, 15-6) for their final series of the year. Game one will begin on Friday at 6 p.m. with a double header scheduled for Saturday.
