LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Eckerd College baseball team found themselves on the winning end of an offensively heavy ball game, taking down Warner University, 11-8, Tuesday afternoon.

The flood gates opened very quickly with both teams showcasing their bats. A combined 19 runs on 24 hits made for an exciting contest.

Eckerd didn't wait long to jump out in front putting up four runs in the top of the first. Rowdy Andrews worked a walk to get on, moved to second on a wild pitch and then stole third. The second WP of the inning resulted in Andrews coming in to score. After getting on base, Lucas Luopa came home to make it 2-0. Nick Hill and Mike Abraham collected one RBI each to top off the four run inning.

The Royals came back and returned the favor bringing in three runs on three hits quickly making it a one run ball game. Both teams were quiet in the second before getting right back it in the third.

Carter Cashman continues to swing a hot bat leading off with a double to start the inning. Lorenzo Vazquez was able to bring his teammate in on a sacrifice fly. Jake O'Rourke clobbered the second double of the inning to plate Abraham who had reached on a walk to make it 6-3.

A two run home run by Warner's Gregg got his team back within one. EC added three insurance runs in the top of the fourth. With the bases loaded, Hill hit a fly ball to right field which was deep enough to score Luopa from third. Abraham and James Petika both tacked on one RBI each before the inning was up to take a 9-5 lead.

The Tritons final two runs of the game came in the top of the fifth. Vazquez earned his second RBI of the game the hard way getting drilled with a fastball with bases loaded. Luopa was brought around for the third time in the first five innings on a fielder's choice by Hill.

No runs came in for the next three and a half innings. The Royals went into the bottom of the ninth with a last ditch effort getting three runs on two hits. The comeback fell short with the Tritons taking home the 11-8 victory.

Cashman ended the night 3 for 4 and now has 12 hits in his last six games. Petika and O'Rourke collected two hits apiece while Vazquez walked three times and scored twice. Nick Alonzo took to the mound for the middle five innings striking out five and not allowing a run earning his second win of the season.

Eckerd (19-24, 6-13) will play their final road game of the year on Wednesday when the team heads to Babson Park to take on Webber International. First pitch is slated for 7 pm.
