Box Score 2 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In their final home games of the year, the Eckerd College softball team swept Warner University, 8-0 and 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tritons (30-16, 8-13) continued their historic season as the winningest team in program history.
Amber Hay picked up her 18
th win of the year from the circle in game one. It was her second one hitter of the season as she pitched a gem from the mound issuing six strikeouts.
Hay got things started for the Tritons in the second inning of game one with a single to left. After advancing to second off a walk, she was then brought home off the bat of
Chelsea Armstrong.
Erin Dixson sent a rocket to the left center gap picking up her seventh double of the year, plating
Kirby Parnell. The EC offense proceeded to unloaded in the fourth, driving in four runs.
Carrie Shere led off with a walk, stole second and then was brought home when
Dana Paul collected her team leading ninth double.
Brittany Mitchell picked up two RBIs of her own, sending a laser at the pitcher to score Paul and Armstrong. The final run of the inning came off the bat of
Kaycie Duncan to plate Mitchell.
Dixson launched her 11
th home run of the year over the right centerfield fence, inching closer to the single season home run record. Duncan ended the game early, picking up her second hit of the game to score Parnell.
EC got on the board often an early in game two.
Sydney Dinelli and Hay each picked up their third long balls of the season, launching two run shots to each gap in the bottom of the first.
The game went quiet for three innings as neither team was able to manufacture a run. The Royals tacked on one run in the fourth followed by two more in the sixth, slowly chipping away at the Tritons lead. After Warner tied the game in seventh at 4-4, game one starter Hay came in to get EC out of the inning.
Mitchell started the rally in the seventh sending a single through the left side. Back to back singles by Duncan and Dinelli had the bases loaded with one out. Dixson stepped up to the plate and ended her career at the Turley Athletic Complex on a high note, sending a shot at the shortstop to score the winning run.
Hay picked up her second win of the day, improving to 19-11 on the year and with that she ties the career wins record from the circle (30).
EC will hit the road for their final seven games of the season. The Tritons will face Palm Beach Atlantic in double header action on Saturday starting at 2 p.m.
