Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla. – In the opening game of a three game series, the Eckerd College softball team fell to Saint Leo on Friday night, 11-1.
In last season's meeting, the Tritons (28-14, 8-11) grabbed their first ever SSC series sweep in program history. Out for revenge, the Lion (31-12, 7-9) unloaded grabbing 10 hits to end the game in five innings.
SLU took advantage of early miscues from the Triton defense, pushing six runs across the plate. Adding two more in the bottom of the second, EC gave it their all breaking up the shutout.
Dana Paul spoiled the no-hitter for the Lions sending a laser into the left center gap, picking up one of the Tritons two hits on the day.
Carrie Shere nabbed ECs final hit in the fourth legging out an infield single for her team leading 47
th base knock of the year. After reaching third on an error, the freshman crossed home plate off the bat of
Chelsea Armstrong.
Saint Leo added their final three runs in the bottom of the fourth before sitting the Tritons down one, two, three to end the fifth.
Amber Hay picked up the loss, falling to 17-10 on the season before giving way to
Erin Dixson who closed out the game.
EC will take the diamond tomorrow for the final two games of the series. The double header is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
