FORT MYERS, Fla. – After earning their first win in program history over the weekend, the Eckerd College sand volleyball team was swept by Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday afternoon, 5-0.
Tjasa Kotnik along with
Gabriella Reis Guimaraes fell in the No. 1 slot to Masters/Allen in back to back sets, 21-15 and 21-14. The pair of
Katie Arnette and
Ali McAlvany competed in the No. 2 slot and were downed 21-7, 21-16, by Glickert/Moeller.
The tandem of
Madison Whiting and
Emily Carpenter fought hard in the first set falling just short of a comeback, 21-17, to Mesner/Wilcox in the No. 3 position. Whiting and Carpenter dropped the second set, 21-10.
In the No. 4 slot,
Savanna Cary along with
Jordan Trimble went down in straight sets, 21-10 and 21-7 to Jordan/Gutmann.
Mackenzie Redner and partner
Morgan Jones dropped set one, 21-8, to Ferguson/Leopold in the No. 5 position. The duo of Redner and Jones battled hard trying to push the second set into extra points, but fell 22-20.
Eckerd (1-6) will host Carson-Newman College on Monday in double header action beginning at 2 pm.
