Box Score FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Eckerd College softball teams offense unloaded late in the game to take home the victory, 8-3 against conference opponent Nova Southeastern on Friday night.
Heading into the top of the seventh inning, the Tritons were in an unfamiliar position as they were three outs away from falling to the Sharks. A late rally from the team secured their 21
st victory of the season as they improved to 4-0 in conference.
EC and Nova were scoreless through three innings until the Shark offense came alive and took a 3-0 lead over the Tritons.
Kara Oberer doubled in Eckerd's first run of the game in the fifth inning, bringing home
Brittany Mitchell who reached base on a walk.
Heading into the seventh, EC was three outs away from their first conference loss when the offense came alive to grab the lead.
Carrie Shere started the rally for the Tritons clobbering her sixth home run of the year over the right field fence. Oberer then singled up the middle and was brought to third off of a double from
Sydney Dinelli.
Kaycie Duncan shot a laser up the middle to give EC a 4-3 advantage over the Sharks and scored off another single up the middle, this time from
Erin Dixson.
Mitchell then nabbed two RBIs of her own as she scored Dixson and
Dana Paul who doubled down the right field line. Shere came up for the second time that inning and tripled in Eckerd's final run of the game.
"As soon as Carrie dropped the bomb, she sparked new life into us and there was no way we were going to lose," said Oberer. "We were determined to make no out and easy one and I am so proud of the way we picked each other up tonight." The junior ended the night going 3 for 5 at the plate.
Amber Hay went the distance for the Tritons securing her 12
th win of the season. The senior struck out three batters while grabbing two assists on the day.
At the hot corner,
Chelsea Armstrong was flawless grabbing seven assists. Shere nabbed two hits on the day while Dinelli, Duncan, Hay, Dixson, Paul, and Mitchell each had one.
EC will be back in action tomorrow for a twin bill against the Sharks. Game one of the double header will start at 1 p.m.
