Box Score 2 LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Eckerd College softball team completed their eighth sweep of the season as they downed Warner University, 6-3 and 11-4 Wednesday afternoon.
The Tritons improved to 20-2 on the season and won their 15
th straight game. EC gave Warner an early lead in game one, but working as a team they came back to take down the Royals. The offense unloaded in game two as they rattled off 13 hits while playing perfect defense in the field.
Amber Hay went the distance for the Tritons in game one improving her record to 11-2. The senior struck out four batters while scattering five hits.
Erin Dixson toed the rubber for game two and went five strong innings earning the win before giving way to
Janna Gaburo who closed the game out. The two combined for four strike outs and shut down the Royal offense allowing eight hits.
Game 1 – Eckerd 6, Warner 3EC leadoff batter
Carrie Shere continued her hot streak as she opened up game one with the first triple of her young career. Shere was then brought home off the bat of
Kara Oberer who sent a deep sacrifice fly to left field.
Warner answered in the bottom of the first with two runs to take an early lead over the Tritons. A defensive battled ensued in the middle innings as neither team was able to manufacture runs.
It wasn't until the fifth inning that the Eckerd bats would come alive. Oberer slugged her eighth home run of the year to score
Kiana Sladicki and take a 3-2 lead.
The team continued to swing the hot stick as Sladicki, Shere, and
Sydney Dinelli each collected an RBI a piece to give EC the insurance runs they needed.
Shere and Oberer nabbed four of the Tritons seven hits while Dinelli, Dixson, and
Brittany Mitchell each tallied one.
Game 2 – Eckerd 11, Warner 4The Tritons were quick to score in game two as they put up four runs on the Royals in the first. Dinelli started the inning earning a walk and was brought home by
Kaycie Duncan who doubled to deep right center and later stole home on a throwing error. Dixson then sent a bomb over the center field fence for her sixth home run of the year scoring herself and Hay.
Warner was able to get a rally going in the fourth as they broke the shutout and were within two of the Tritons.
Eckerd tacked on two more runs in the fifth off the bats of
Chelsea Armstrong and Mitchell. With the table set in the sixth, Dixson nabbed her second home run of the game and her first grand slam of the year to give EC a 10-2 lead.
Warner tacked on two more runs in the bottom half of the inning forcing EC to go all seven. The Tritons added their final run of the game off a triple from Duncan to score
Kiley King who had walked.
Duncan finished the game going 3 for 5 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Mitchell finished a perfect 3 for 3. Dixson also had a great day at the plate going 2 for 4 with two home runs and six RBIs.
The Tritons will be on the road this weekend as they head down to Fort Lauderdale to take on Nova Southeastern (8-8, 3-0) in SSC play. Game one will begin Friday at 6 p.m.
