ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College men's tennis team picked up their first victory of the spring season in an 8-1 win over Post University (Conn.) on Wednesday afternoon at the Dick Bullard Courts.
The Tritons (1-3, 0-2) came out on top and swept doubles play over the Eagles (1-5, 0-0) and took all but one from singles.
"We had a solid win today. We took care of doubles and got an early lead in singles," said Head Coach,
Ben Maxwell. "I'm proud of the focus and effort from everyone on the team."
The junior duo of
Yosua Adiyasa and
Frazier Springfield took down the No. 1 doubles slot and grabbed their first doubles victory of the year, 8-3.
Stephen Felman and
Victor Appelqvist took home the No. 2 doubles victory after shutting out Post, 8-0. The pair improved to 2-1 on the season in doubles action.
The final doubles victory belonged to the duo of
Eddie Lewis and
Connor Masella who now boast the highest win record on the team of 3-0.
All but one of the singles matches belonged to the Tritons as they took down the Eagles. Appelqvist and Lewis took home their second singles victory of the year while Felman, Springfield, and Masella each nabbed their first of the spring.
"Felman played a great match and got the well-deserved win while Masella fought leg cramps to win his match," added Maxwell. "We are hoping to continue our focus and momentum into tomorrow."
The team will have a quick turnaround as they play host to John Carroll University Thursday at 2 p.m.
