Box Score 2 CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Eckerd College softball team took down Chadron State in game one, 4-3, before dropping game two to Young Harris College, 2-1, on Friday.
The Tritons and Eagles opened up play at the annual Eckerd College Spring Invitational. Chadron jumped out in front to a 2-0 lead plating both runs in the top of the second inning.
Amber Hay reached first base on a walk in the bottom of the third.
Kara Oberer moved Hay into scoring position with a sac bunt.
Sydney Dinelli roped a ball into center field to drive in Hay and make it a one run game.
Janna Gaburo replaced starter
Carolyn Griffin in the circle and delivered a stellar performance in relief. Gaburo allowed one hit over 5.1 innings on the rubber allowing one unearned run in the top of the sixth, but keeping her team within striking distance.
Brittany Mitchell singled through the left side in the bottom of seventh with one out to get the rally started.
Carrie Shere followed Mitchell with a single of her own bringing the winning run to the plate. Oberer walked setting the stage for Dinelli who would not disappoint. The senior drove the ball to the wall, inches from going over, but deep enough to get three runs in and steal the walk off victory, 4-3.
Gaburo collected her first collegiate win improving to 1-0 on the season.
Hay was the starter for Eckerd in game two against Young Harris College. The right hander went six innings giving up two unearned runs. The Mountain Lions scored two runs on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Rachael Luckett led off the top of the sixth with a single to left. Mitchell sent a hard liner into center field bringing in Luckett from second putting EC on the board. The Tritons ended up a couple runs short of a second late inning comeback, falling 2-1.
Shere collected four hits on the day with two stolen bases and a run scored. Dinelli finished with four RBI's, all coming in the first game.
Eckerd (3-1) will be right back on the diamond Saturday to take on Lindenwood University. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
