Box Score 2 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The bats were alive and well for the Eckerd College softball team on Sunday leading to two wins over Palm Beach Atlantic taking game one, 9-1 and game two, 5-2.
The Sailfish jumped out in front 1-0 in the top half of the third. In the bottom half of the inning the EC offense let loose for four runs.
Kara Oberer,
Sydney Dinelli and
Kaycie Duncan all recorded RBI's with Oberer tallying two.
Carrie Shere crushed her third home run of the week in the next inning scoring two to go up 6-1. Later on in the same inning, Dinelli singled in Oberer for her second RBI of the game. In the bottom of the sixth, Oberer stepped up to the plate smacking her first long ball of the season. With
Brittany Mitchell already on base, the two run shot gave Eckerd the win, 9-1.
Amber Hay earned her fifth win of the season getting the complete game shutout. Hay allowed one unearned run while PBA scattered only three hits on the day.
Game two had both teams scoring early. The Tritons and Sailfish both managed two runs each in the first inning. EC took a one run lead in the third with a solo shot from
Erin Dixson, her second of the season. Mitchell tripled to the right center gap scoring
Dana Paul to go up 4-2.
A single by Dinelli along with back to back errors by PBA loaded the bases for Dixson in the fifth. The right handed swinger managed to single to right field bringing in another insurance run for Eckerd.
Dixson got the start in the circle going six innings grabbing her second victory of the year. Hay relieved the Triton starter in the seventh and promptly sat down the next three batters to earn her second save on the season.
Shere finished the day going 4 for 8 scoring three runs and driving in two. Tallying six RBI's in the double header, Oberer went 3 for 7 while crossing home plate four times. As a team, the Tritons collected 16 hits on the day.
Eckerd, who has started red hot going 9-2 out of the gate, will host Warner University for a double header on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. with game two set to follow.
