WOMEN'S BASKETBALL GAMEDAY: Eckerd at Claflin

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Coming off a big win to finish the early portion of conference play, the Eckerd College women's basketball team travels to face in-region opponent Claflin (S.C.) University on Saturday at 2:00 PM.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS
- Claflin is off to a strong start to its SIAC schedule, notching three road wins in the first week of December.  Today's game will be the team's first home game since November 28.
- The Panthers have faced two SSC opponents so far, walking away with narrow losses in each.  Florida Tech knocked off Claflin, 59-51, to open the season.  Florida Southern scored a 79-71 win over Claflin on November 28.  All three of the Panthers' losses have been by eight points or fewer.
- Senior guard Shaniece Brown is the centerpiece of the team's offense.  The Rochester, New York native averages 15.8 points per game while shooting 48.6 percent from the floor and 65.5 percent from inside the arc.  She has also made 27-of-29 from the free throw line and hands out an average of 3.7 assists per game.
- The Panthers are a strong team on the boards, averaging 41.0 rebounds per game and a plus-4.4 rebounding margin.  They are aggressive on the offensive end in attacking the glass, averaging 16.2 offensive rebounds per game.

ABOUT THE TRITONS
- Eckerd was quite impressive in its last outing, a 66-38 win over Tampa in the McArthur Center.  The Tritons knocked down 10-of-20 from 3-point range in the victory, including four 3's from Margaret Sundberg on her way to a game-high 14 points.
- In her first season as a starter, Sundberg has emerged as the team's top scorer averaging 11.7 points per game.  She has led the Tritons in scoring in four of their seven games so far, including a career-high 17 points against Rollins on November 24.  She also leads the team in assists.
- Kacie Juday grabbed a career-best 13 rebounds last Saturday in the win over Tampa.  Juday, a transfer from NCAA Division I Stony Brook (N.Y.), averages a team-high 7.9 rebounds per game while also leading the team in steals (11).
- Defense has been EC's calling card so far this season.  The Tritons rank 12th in D-II in opponent scoring average (53.3 points per game) and second in opponent field goal percentage (31.4 percent).  Eckerd has allowed 60 or more points only one time in seven games.
