Live VideoABOUT THE PANTHERS- Florida Tech won three straight games to start the season, including a 68-60 win at Tampa in its conference opener. Back-to-back losses to No. 3 Nova Southeastern and the University of Sioux Falls derailed the Panthers' momentum but they did get back in the win column on Saturday, defeating NAIA Webber International (Fla.), 78-74. Â
- The loss to NSU came down to the wire as the Sharks out-scored FIT, 27-13, in the fourth quarter to pick up a 75-73 win. The Panthers played for the last shot, but were called for an offensive foul.
- Shequana Harris has led the team in scoring in each of its six games this season, averaging 18.8 points per game. A tenacious defender as well, she leads the team in steals with 3.5 per game.
- Florida Tech makes its living on the offensive glass and at the free throw line. The Panthers average nearly 17 offensive rebounds per game, helping them to a +4.7 rebounding margin. They also attack the basket and draw fouls, leading to an average of 27 free throw attempts per game. FIT has already taken 64 more foul shots than has its opponents.
ABOUT THE TRITONS- Eckerd is coming off an impressive 73-59 road win over Rollins on November 24 to improve to 2-0 in SSC play. The Tritons made 12 of their first 17 shots in the game en route to building a 21-point lead in the second quarter.Â
Margaret Sundberg led the way with a career-high 17 points.
- While Eckerd made its mark with offensive efficiency in a record-setting campaign last year, the team's early success this season has come from defense. The Tritons are holding opponents to just 30.8 percent shooting and 53.2 points per game. Both of those numbers rank among the national leaders in Division II as EC is seventh in the nation in field goal percentage defense and 18th in points per game allowed.
- Sundberg leads the team in scoring with 12.6 points per game, the only Triton currently in double figures. The senior guard has elevated her game as she has moved into the starting point guard role, also leading the team in field goal percentage (44.2), 3-point percentage (37.5) and assists (2.4).
-
Victoria Vine and
Kacie Juday have helped give the Tritons a +5.2 rebounding margin so far this season. Vine leads the team in rebounding with 7.8 per game while Juday averages 7.4 per game.
LOOKING BACKThe Panthers proved to be a tough matchup for Eckerd last season, sweeping the regular season series. FIT won 76-60 in Melbourne on December 6, 2014, and completed the sweep with a 72-65 win in St. Petersburg on January 31. Florida Tech forced EC into a total of 49 turnovers in the two meetings.
