ABOUT THE LIONS
- Saint Leo opened the season 1-1, splitting its games at the Florida Southern Classic against a pair of teams from the SIAC.  The Lions lost a nail-biter to Clark Atlanta, 79-78, before routing Paine (Ga.), 81-58.
- The Lions also had a big-time experience in exhibition play as they paid a visit to Duke University on November 8.  The Blue Devils handled Saint Leo, 116-33.
- Senior Chachi Guzman is off to a fast start for the Lions, scoring 16 and 25 points in her first two games.  The Miami native has been known to fill the basket up in the past, scoring a career-high 30 last year against Lynn.
- Newcomer Chelsy Springs, a 5-foot-9 guard/forward, has made an immediate impact for SLU averaging 20.5 points per game in the early season while shooting 58.3 percent from the floor.  The transfer from Daytona State College posted a double-double in the win over Paine with 19 points and 15 rebounds.

ABOUT THE TRITONS
- Eckerd went 1-1 during the GSC-SSC Challenge in Valdosta, Ga., coming from behind to defeat the University of West Georgia, 54-52, before seeing a late lead slip away with a 48-45 loss to Valdosta State (Ga.).
- Sophomore Elisabeth Giegerich scored a career-high 16 points in her first career start in the season-opener against West Georgia.  She also made two free throws late with 23 seconds left to help seal the team's victory.
- Newcomers Anna Deegan and Kacie Juday have been fixtures in the lineup early in the season.  Both have been important on the boards with Juday averaging 7.5 rebounds per game and Deegan averaging 6.0 per game.  Juday leads the team on the offensive glass with eight in two games.
- Eckerd head coach Paul Honsinger, beginning his 10th year, is the winningest coach in program history and the only coach with 100 wins to his credit.

LOOKING BACK
Eckerd swept both meetings with Saint Leo last season, posting a 52-45 road win on January 21 and a 79-55 win at home on February 25.  It was payback for the previous year, when the Lions took both regular-season contests from the Tritons.  EC has won six of the last 10 meetings between the two programs.
