Tritons Top Sailfish on the Road

Box Score

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Led by four players in double figures, the Eckerd College women's basketball team took home a road victory over Palm Beach Atlantic Wednesday night, taking down the sailfish, 70-59.

PBA jumped out to an early lead on the Tritons dropping in five points. A fast break by Rana Thomas gave EC their first points of the game followed by Margaret Sunberg who sunk in her 21st three pointer of the season to tie the teams up.

Trine Kasemagi threw up back to back jumpers off the board to give the Tritons the edge 13-11, but PBA was quick to answer tying up the contest. Thomas made her presence felt on the court as she drained a three pointer from professional range, giving EC the advantage, 16-13.

A big drive in the lane by Ivana Grbic brought EC within one. The first half was neck and neck as both teams struggled to create seperation. Kasemagi kept the Tritons in the race racking up 13 points in the final ten minutes.

Eckerd and Palm Beach tied the score up seven times throughout the first 20 minutes. The Tritons ended the first half throwing up nine unanswered points to head into the locker room up, 36-31.

The Tritons took their lead through the duration of the game, holding an edge on the sailfish for the final 20 minutes. PBA was within three when Grbic banked one in off the glass giving EC a five point lead, 38-33.

Victoria Vine was all over the court dishing out four assists on the night. Kalya Bowlin was on fire behind the three point line taking a pass from vine and dropping in a trey that hit nothing but net. With four minutes remaining in the contest, Bowlin hit another three giving the Tritons a 15 point lead, their largest of the game.

Eckerd's lead proved to be too much to handle, but the Sailfish fought until the end, dropping in six unanswered points. Bowlin threw in the last two points of the game from behind the line as the Tritons took home their 15th win of the season.

"I am very happy for our team, I thought we had two good days of practice and came prepared," said Head Coach, Paul Honsinger. "We connected in the post tonight and I thought that made the difference."

Kasemagi grabbed her second double-double of the season, throwing up 19 points while pulling down 11 boards. Thomas also finished the night with 19 points. Bowlin and Grbic dropped in 12 and 10 points respectively.

Coach Honsinger went on to say, "Trine had a strong double-double for us and really controlled the interior. It was another good in-region win on the road."
The Tritons (15-4, 5-3 SSC) will play host to No. 9 Florida Tech (15-2, 5-2) on Saturday. Tip-Off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
