Tritons Storm Past Fighting Knights

Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Eckerd College women's basketball team took down Lynn University on Saturday 86-64, grabbing their 11th win of the year.

The Fighting Knights jumped out to a quick lead on the Tritons, throwing up five unanswered points to start the first half. Eckerd quickly regrouped with the help of Rana Thomas who threw up seven points in two minutes.

Coming out of the first media timeout, Trine Kasemagi drove through the lane to give EC the first lead of the game. Lynn fought back to tie the game up at 19 all, not before Margaret Sundberg knocked down a beautiful three pointer from the corner, her 13th of the year.

With the game knotted up at 24-24 the Tritons went on a tear, outscoring the Knights 21-6 to end the first half. Eckerd was shooting 51 percent from the field while shooting down all eight baskets from the line. Going into the half Eckerd had a 15 point lead on the Knights, up 45-30.

Eckerd was dominant in the second half as they continued to put pressure on the Knights. Kayla Bowlin opened up the second half dropping in a three pointer from professional distance to give EC an 18 point lead.

The Fighting Knights never gave up as they attempted to come back but Eckerd's lead and play proved to be too much to handle. Trine Kasemagi was a powerhouse under the net in the second half throwing up 17 points through various tip-ins, layups, and jumpers.

Kasemagi threw up four points with 12 minutes remaining to give the Tritons the biggest lead of the night with 24. Victoria Vine was quick on defense in the second half snatching four rebounds. Vine finished the night with 13 points and just two rebounds shy of a double-double.

Ivana Grbic was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line, grabbing 14 points on the day. Kasemagi led the team with 19 and Thomas was not far behind with 16.

"Our team shot and shared the ball very well today," said Head Coach, Paul Honsinger. "Our bench provided a great spark and I thought Trine did a tremendous job being more aggressive offensively to start the second half. Overall our energy was very good for 40 minutes."

As a team, the Tritons set a new season high for points scored in a game with 86. EC was a perfect 100 percent from the line and shot 50 percent from the field. Eight Tritons scored points throughout the game with four finishing in double digits.

Eckerd (11-3, 2-2) will continue on the road Wednesday, as they are set to face Florida Southern (8-4, 2-1). Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
