Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – On a night where the focus was not only on the Eckerd Women's soccer team, but on breast cancer awareness, the Tritons put on an offensive show against Clearwater Christian College with a 5-0 victory on Tuesday.
The EC offense came out looking to score early and did just that when
Monique Elliott drilled in her second goal of the season in the 11
th minute with an assist by
Rae Antenucci.
Fifteen shots were taken in the first half by Eckerd.
Danielle Cook capitalized on a missed shot putting the rebound in the back of the net to put her team up, 2-0, heading into halftime.
During halftime,
Colleen Owen spoke about the Susan G. Komen Foundation. "They have invested almost $2 billion to end breast cancer, turning almost 3 million women from breast cancer patients to breast cancer survivors."
Owen went on to say, "They invest in early detection as well as donating to research and most importantly, giving those diagnosed a sense of hope, as the five year survival rate has soared to 98%."
All of the proceeds raised by the team went to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Arie Anahory was also in the giving mood as she grabbed her team leading seventh assist of the season when her pass to
Michelle Spesshardt was shot past the diving goalkeeper. For Spesshardt, it was her fifth goal of the season.
Anahory wasn't done yet putting in a goal of her own in the 68
th minute.
Katie Shafer tabbed with the assist on the scoring play.
A few minutes after her assist, Shafer took a deep shot that found the backside of the goal thanks to a brilliant assist by
Taylor Tippett.
The defense was also up to the challenge tonight as
Morgan Crescent recorded her, record tying, 16
th career shutout in the team's 5-0 victory.
The Tritons (4-3, 0-0) will finish up their four game home stand on Saturday when they welcome SSC foe, Lynn University (3-5, 0-2). Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
