Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College women's soccer team scored early and often Saturday in their matchup against Johnson and Wales University, grabbing a 9-0 victory.
The Triton offense did not wait long to take the lead as
Katie Shafer delivered a stellar pass to
Abby Sanchez who was able to beat the goalie to put her team up 1-0 in the eighth minute. For Sanchez it was the first collegiate goal of her career.
Shafer was not done dishing out the assists as she added her second of the game when
Arie Anahory found the back of the net in the 60
th minute.
Anahory continues to impress during her senior campaign grabbing her second hat trick of the season. The impressive beginning of the season has pushed Anahory up the all-time records list at Eckerd. She now ranks fourth all-time in goals (24).
Not only has the forward been finding the back of the net, but she has also moved to second on the all-time assist list with 20.
Not to be left out,
Michelle Spesshardt managed a multi-goal day of her own grabbing one goal in each half giving her four on the season.
Shannon Estes-Larkin and
Brooke Silvest both notched their second goals of the season while
Danielle Cook grabbed her first of the year.
Moving one step closer to the top of the all-time shutouts list,
Morgan Crescent earned her 15
th career shutout in the 9-0 win. The goalkeeper sits one away from current record holder, Kathy Atkins.
Head coach,
Danielle Fotopoulos, was more excited about her team than the final score. "I'm very happy to see our girls gelling together and getting ready for conference play," said coach Fotopoulos. "Staying disciplined on defense is our main goal and if we can do that we will be fine."
Women's soccer moves to 3-0 on the young season and will hit the road to take on Palm Beach Atlantic (1-2), Tuesday. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
