Baseball Strings Together Late Rally In Loss to Warner, 8-6

Box Score

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Eckerd College baseball team rallied to score four runs in the final two innings against Warner University but ultimately fell on Tuesday night at Royals Field, 8-6.

The Tritons (24-18, 8-10 SSC) faced the Royals (24-26-2) twice earlier in the season with Eckerd taking the first meeting, 14-10, and the Royals winning the most recent matchup.

Eckerd struck first in the second as senior Mike Vavasis led off the inning with a single to left field. Sophomore Carter Cashman followed with a two-run blast for his second home run of the season.

Warner cut the Tritons' lead to one in the third inning on a Damien McKinney double and an RBI single from Sergio Perez.

The Royals scored three runs in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead off of a sacrifice fly out from Anthony Davole, a double off the bat of Nick Gallipeau and a Tritons' error.

A four-run eighth inning for Warner would eventually be enough to hold off the Tritons even though they pieced together a combined four runs in the final two frames.

Senior Lincoln Dunham led off the eighth with a single to center field and later scored on a single from junior Mike Abraham. The Tritons scored three more runs in the ninth on a two-run double from sophomore Rowdy Andrews and a sacrifice fly out from senior Chris Hanson.

Warner's Jose Hernandez earned the win on the mound for Warner. Hernandez tossed 5.1 innings in relief and allowed one run on four hits and one walk and struck out four.

Andrews led the Tritons' offense, going 1-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored.

Eckerd continues with its schedule on the road as it travels to Babson Park to face Webber International University tomorrow at 7 p.m.
