ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College softball team picked up its fourth sweep of the season in a doubleheader against Goshen (Ind.) College, 6-0 and 10-0, on Monday night at the Turley Athletic Complex.

Eckerd (9-6, 0-0 SSC) has now won nine of its last 10 games, while Goshen (0-2 overall) opened its season against the Tritons.

Eckerd 6, Goshen 0

The Tritons mustered all the offense they would need in the bottom of the second inning as junior Amber Hay led off the inning with a single to left field and stole second base during Carolyn Griffin's at-bat. Griffin knocked a single to left field to give Eckerd runners on second and third base with no outs, and the next at-bat, Brittany Mitchell flew out to right field, but Hay tagged up on the play to score the game-winning run.

Eckerd added an insurance run in the bottom of the third inning as Chelsea Jeffares hit a one-out single to right-centerfield to lead off the inning. Duncan followed by launching a double to left-centerfield to bring Jeffares across the plate.

The Tritons added three more runs in the fourth inning on a two-run double from Jeffares and a sacrifice fly from Duncan, and Eckerd added its final run in the sixth inning off a double from Kara Oberer, a Maple Leafs' error and a sacrifice fly from Jeffares.

Goshen placed runners in scoring position in each of the first four innings, but starting pitcher Erin Dixson and the defense was able to work out of the innings unharmed.

Dixson picked up her fourth win of the year. She tossed six innings and allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out five.

Eckerd 10, Goshen 0

Eckerd continued its offensive front into game two, and scored three runs to close out the first inning.

Oberer led off the inning with a single to left field and advanced to second base on an illegal pitch from Goshen pitcher Jessica Reed. Two outs later, Hay hit a single to right-centerfield to score Oberer. The Tritons brought in the final two runs on a Goshen error and an RBI single from Griffin.

The Tritons added one run in the bottom of the second and three more in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to end the game early in the fifth on the 8-run rule.

Hay started her seventh game of the season and struck out five in her three innings, including a three-up-three-down second inning on strikeouts.

Griffin tossed the final two innings and allowed no hits and walked only one.

Jeffares led the Tritons' offense on the night, going 3-for-4 with one walk, two runs scored and five RBI.
