ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After going 2-0 during the Thanksgiving Classic, the Eckerd College women's basketball team will take on Florida Tech Saturday in their conference opener.
Eckerd (5-1) is currently riding a four game winning streak The Tritons currently lead the Sunshine State Conference with a .531 field goal percentage and rank second with a .366 three point shooting percentage.
Rana Thomas is averaging 17.8 points per contest this season making her second in the SSC.
Trine Kasemagi leads all freshmen in scoring (14.0), rebounds (5.2) and field goal percentage (.673). Averaging 4.8 assists per game,
Kayla Bowlin ranks second in conference while averaging just under 10 points a game (9.8).
"Our conference is very strong," said Head Coach,
Paul Honsinger. "The SSC has three teams in the top 15 in the country."
Florida Tech (5-0) comes into the contest as the only remaining undefeated team in the Sunshine State Conference. The Panthers received 28 votes in the latest
USA Today Coaches Poll released on Tuesday.
"Florida Tech is off to a great start and we are very excited to play an undefeated team," said Honsinger. "Both programs have matched up well in the past and I expect this will be a very good game between two really good teams."
Both teams walked away with a win during last season with FIT taking the first game in overtime, 64-61. The Tritons took the second game at home, 70-64.
Tip-off in Melbourne, Fla. is scheduled for 2 p.m.
