Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's basketball team hosted Albany State on Wednesday night defeating the Golden Rams, 75-47.
The Tritons came out aggressive in the nonconference contest. A steal by
Ivana Grbic led to the first two points for EC with
Victoria Vine going 2 for 2 from the line. Vine was involved early and often in the first half grabbing a steal and then laying it in for two points and drawing the foul. The guard drained her free throw giving her team a 7-4 lead.
Rana Thomas and Grbic both hit three pointers on back-to-back possessions putting their team up 15-11. The Golden Rams went down the court and hit a jumper as Eckerd then proceeded to go on a 12-2 run spanning the next six minutes. Grbic hit a deep three from the corner to put an exclamation point on the EC scoring surge.
Trine Kasemagi and Grbic both added layups to end the first half as Eckerd headed into the locker room with a 33-21 lead.
Thomas picked up on offense as soon as the Tritons came back out on the court with a three from the top of the arch. Eckerd went on a 14-4 run to pull away from Albany State in the second half.
Jordyn Alexander added nine second half points as the Tritons came away with the 75-47 victory.
Grbic finished with 15 points going 3 for 3 from three point land. Thomas totaled 14 points while Alexander ended up with 11 points coming off the bench for Eckerd. As a team, the Tritons shot 52 percent from the floor and 77 percent from the free throw line.
Eckerd (7-2, 0-1) will be back in action on Saturday hosting LIU Post (5-3, 2-1). Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
