BABSON PARK, Fla.
– Webber International University slugged a combined seven home runs on its way to a doubleheader sweep against the Eckerd College softball program in a pair of shortened six-inning contests on Wednesday afternoon, 11-3 and 12-4.

Webber International's Ashlee Quigley, Jessica Lanci and Ashley Peterson, each homered twice for the Warriors (11-9 overall), who manufactured a combined 11 runs in the sixth innings against the Tritons (14-19 overall).

EC freshman shortstop Kara Oberer enjoyed a 4-for-7 day at the plate in both games, including her ninth home run of the season, a two-out solo shot in the third inning of game two.

Oberer continued to impress during her rookie season by upping her average to .372 and is now tied for third all-time in career home runs with Kelly Jackson (2000-2003). She is also rapidly closing in on the program's longstanding single-season record of 13 set by Sherry Howell back in 1990.

Lanci homered in WIU's first at-bat of the afternoon and the Warriors added three more runs in the second that was keyed by a two-run double for a 4-0 lead going into the third inning.

The Tritons scored a combined three runs in the fourth and fifth innings after receiving an RBI double from senior Kristen Schurr, a sacrifice fly off the bat of freshman Kaycie Duncan and another run-scoring hit by sophomore Brittany Mitchell.

The score was just 5-3 at the end of five full frames before Peterson launched a home run to straight-away center to begin the sixth.

The Warriors cleared the bases in the same inning with a three-run double by Maureen Sandidge before Quigley ended the game prematurely with a two-run shot, her second of the game.

Eckerd managed six hits in the opener as Oberer also clubbed her eighth double of the spring.

Eckerd was in contention again in game two looking to salvage the split, trailing by just a 4-3 score in the middle innings. The Warriors extended their lead after a three-run homer by Sandidge in the fourth and answered an EC run in the top of the fifth with a five-run sixth frame.

Seven different Tritons registered hits against the Warriors to close the afternoon.

Junior Chelsea Jeffares drove in her eighth run of the season with an infield single and additional RBI's were in sacrifice form from freshman Kirby Parnell and sophomore Sabrina Lolo.

Eckerd deployed three different pitchers in both games as Whitney Bernier, Kaitlyn Dougherty, Logan Rohrbach, Mitchell and Nazley Wilson, all logged innings in the circle.

The Tritons return home for a weekend Sunshine State Conference series against Rollins College beginning with a Friday-night 7 p.m. showdown at the Turley Athletic Complex.
