FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.
– After falling victim in an extra-inning affair the night prior, the Eckerd College softball program bounced back strong to perform a doubleheader sweep against Nova Southeastern University on Saturday, 4-3 and 10-3.

The Tritons (14-14, 2-4 SSC) picked up their first wins in Sunshine State Conference play and solved a pitcher for the Sharks (13-15, 2-7 SSC) in Jennie Von Doellen who had handcuffed the offense to 11 strikeouts in the series opener.

Von Doellen, currently second in the SSC in total strikeouts, was tagged for the loss in game one and yielded three additional unearned runs in relief in the finale.

The Tritons also surpassed their win total from a year ago, tying the 12-win mark from the 2012 campaign earlier this week against Dominican (N.Y.) College.

Junior Kaitlyn Dougherty spun together a complete-game in first contest, scattering seven hits on two earned runs. She evened her season record in the circle to 3-3 overall and started with three scoreless frames.

Freshman Amanda Green slugged her first career home run to back the offensive production at the plate, leaving the park with a solo shot in the bottom of the second inning to left-center field. She went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored in game one alone.

The offense picked up the slack in the top of the fourth with a three spot, highlighted by a two-run single from freshman Amanda Green. Another freshman, Kirby Parnell, drove in another as part of her perfect day at the plate.

Parnell, who has batted ninth and at the top of the order for durations this year, went 4-for-4 (all singles) with a pair of RBI and a run scored.

Her multi-hit effort was part of a joint effort as Green, sophomore Brittany Mitchell, freshman Kaycie Duncan and sophomore Sabrina Lolo, each recorded two hits apiece.

All 13 of EC's hits in game two were in the form of singles, but translated into a six-run sixth inning as the Tritons added to their lead. Mitchell delivered the big blow with a two-run single through infield following a pair of NSU errors.

Whitney Bernier and Logan Rohrbach worked together in game one in the circle to limit the Nova Southeastern offense despite the second homer in as many games from Friday's hero, Shelby Talon.

But EC's own power threat, Kara Oberer, rocketed her eighth home run of the spring after Lolo began the game with a double against Von Doellen.

Continuing a phenomenal freshman season, Oberer leads the SSC in home runs and is tied for second in RBI (23). Oberer's stance in the national rankings will be released next week.

In just 28 games, Oberer is already fourth among all players in program history in homers. She is also rapidly closing in on Sherry Howell's single-season record of longballs of 13 recorded back in 1990.

The Tritons broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh with the go-ahead and eventual winning run. Green doubled to get things going and a courtesy runner, junior Taylor Styke, crossed home plate after she was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt.

The Tritons will have the whole week off before traveling to Melbourne on Friday for a three-game SSC series against Florida Tech.
