Rana Thomas ended with 10, as the Eckerd College women's basketball program defeated Florida Southern College for the second time this season on Wednesday night, 59-47.
A 19-2 run to begin the first period gave the Tritons (12-10, 8-6 SSC) the momentum for the game and they never let go of the lead. Eckerd locked down the Moccasins (9-14, 3-10 SSC) defensively, holding them to just four field goals in the first half.
Junior forward
Kristiana Stauere led the way for the Tritons on the glass by pulling down seven rebounds.
Kayla Bowlin grabbed six rebounds and Thomas finished with five.
The Tritons led the way in the three-point battle, hitting 6-of-18 shots from behind the arc. The Mocs attempted 12 threes on the night, knocking down three from long range.
Junior captain
Amy Buccilla provided a big spark off the bench, converting a three-point play and knocking down a three ball with under four minutes to play in the first half.
A big steal from freshman Kailtlin Jackson and the “and one” play from Armstrong put the Tritons up 30-9 with 1:40 left in the half. A layup by Charles with the assist from sophomore
Taylor Bestry sent the Tritons into the locker room up 32-13.
EC held onto the double-digit lead for most of the game. The Mocs cut the lead to nine with 3:47 left in the game while improving their shooting percentages to 50 percent from beyond the arc (3-of-6) and 31 percent from the field.
Kirstin McIntyre finished with 14 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the line and 2-of-13 from the floor. Caitlin Lindsay ended with 12 points and knocked down two of her team's long-range jumpers. Mariah Harris had a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Tritons have two home games remaining on the schedule as the regular season comes down to a close. They will return home this Saturday for a non-conference matchup against Palm Beach Atlantic University for their “Think Pink” day. The Tritons will be in their pink uniforms to support the cause in the fight against breast cancer.
