LAKE WALES, Fla.
– Freshman shortstop Kara Oberer launched her fourth home run of the spring, but separate innings of huge run production guided Warner University past the Eckerd College softball program in a Saturday twinbill, 7-0 and 7-2.

The Tritons (6-8, 0-0 SSC) struggled offensively against the Royals (2-1, 0-0 TSC), falling in their fifth and sixth straight contests after opening the year 6-2.

Warner manufactured all seven runs in the first inning of the opener and struck for a six-run sixth frame in the finale to complete the sweep.

Sophomore Brittany Mitchell recorded two of the team's five hits in game one and junior Kaitlyn Dougherty doubled in her last plate appearance in the seventh.

Combined with two errors in the inning, the Royals scored their seven runs on six hits.

Only one run was earned against the line of junior starter Whitney Bernier, but she exited after recording two outs and gave way for senior Logan Rohrbach, who allowed only three hits in 5 1/3 scoreless innings.

Rohrbach struck out two hitters as she faced 19 batters the rest of the way.

WU's Heather Knoop pitched the five-hit complete-game shutout in the opener. Leadoff hitter Tabatha Martin went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored to lead the offensive charge.

Oberer drilled a solo shot to get the Tritons rolling in game two with two outs in the first inning against Warner starter Lindsey Martin.

Oberer, with four homers and 12 RBI, wouldn't get another pitch to hit as she was walked in two other unofficial at-bats.

The Royals got their run back in the bottom of the first following an RBI double by Knoop.

Dougherty kept the Tritons in contention through the middle innings and was in line for the win after a two-out RBI triple from freshman Kirby Parnell gave EC the lead again, 2-1, in the fifth. Parnell plated junior Ashleigh Bynum, who singled in the prior at-bat.

But the sixth inning unraveled for the Tritons, looking to salvage the split and protect their one-run cushion, as Warner erupted for six runs and six hits while benefiting from an error.

WU's Miranda Wrinkle allowed one run in the final three innings to record the win.

The Tritons will get their chance for redemption against the same Royals' squad on Wednesday at the Turley Athletic Complex, hosting another doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
