Box Score

WINTER PARK, Fla.
– Sophomore Azure Dorsey netted a hat trick in the first 30 minutes of play, senior Anita Cox converted a penalty kick and Rollins College defeated the Eckerd College women's soccer program on Wednesday, 6-2.

The Tars (2-3, 0-0 SSC) tallied five goals in the first half alone and 11 of their 18 shots in the opening period were on goal.

The Tritons (2-1, 0-0 SSC) dropped their first contest of the season after recording back-to-back victories against Florida College and Johnson & Wales University.

Tonight's match did not count towards the Sunshine State Conference standings.

EC freshman forward Devon Morse blasted a shot for the first goal of her career past RC's Shelby Finch to thwart the Tars' shutout attempt. Freshman forward Rachel Price was credited with the assist in the 56th minute.

Eckerd outscored Rollins in the second half, 2-1.

The Tritons put another goal on the scoreboard after RC's Taylor Thigpen inadvertently headed a ball into her own net with under 13 minutes left in regulation.

After Thigpen rattled the crossbar with a shot that nearly went in for the first score of the match, Dorsey rifled a shot that was too hot to handle for EC sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Crescent as the ball smacked off her gloves.

Less than five minutes later, Dorsey snuck behind the defense and was the beneficiary of a double-assist to make the score 2-0.

At the 24:28 mark in the first half, another sophomore, Courtney Reddig, pushed in a shot at the top of the net that crept past the outstretched fingertips of Crescent.

Dorsey recorded her third goal of the match in the 29th minute, unassisted, as the Tars pushed their lead to 4-0.

The Tars capitalized on additional ball movement in the box before halftime as an Eckerd slide tackle attempt was whistled for a foul and Cox converted the one-on-one shot with Crescent sprawling out to her left.

Brenna McKee assisted two Tars' scores and scored midway through the second half, breaking free down the right side to beat the keeper after an EC defender lost her footing.

Crescent capped off the busy night in net by making 10 saves. Her counterpart, Mary Spring, earned the win and logged over 58 minutes of time behind goal.

The Tritons will look to rebound on Saturday for their SSC opener against the University of Tampa (4-1, 0-0 SSC). Start time between EC and the Spartans at Pepin Stadium is set for 8 p.m.
