Lynn University Prevails Over Baseball in Friday-Night Affair, 5-2

Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
- Senior pitcher Shawn Kale struck out a career-best 11 batters en route to leading Lynn University to victory over the Eckerd College baseball team on Friday night, 5-2.

The Tritons (15-21, 3-13 SSC) scored the first run of the game as Alex Del Monte came home from third on a wild pitch from Kale. Eckerd struck again in the second as senior Dan Capra singled up the middle with two outs to drive in Joe McLemore from third base to take a two-run lead.

Senior David Regidor led the Tritons on the night offensively going 3-for-5. Senior Bryant Gibson had a solid night in center field as he had two assists to save two runs from scoring at home plate.

Senior starter Joey Cuda was charged with the loss on the night after giving up 11 hits and five earned runs. The reigning NCBWA South Region and SSC Pitcher of the Week worked through the first six innings of play allowing only one run while scattering nine hits.

Heading into the seventh with a one-run lead, Cuda was drilled in the thigh by Lynn's leadoff hitter. While the senior struck out the next batter he saw, the Fighting Knights would tack on four runs off of three hits and two Triton errors to take the lead, ending Cuda's night on the mound.

The Tritons put their rally caps on in the bottom of the ninth, but Andre Colon shut the door for his fourth save.

With two outs in the ninth, Del Monte and Regidor hit back-to-back singles to bring the tying run to the plate. Colon left them stranded and the Tritons left 10 total runners on base to end the night.

Eckerd will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader against Lynn that starts at 1 p.m. Live stats and audio/video will be available on www.eckerdtritons.com.
