Defensive Domination Leads Volleyball to Ninth Straight Win, Sweep Versus Lynn University

Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
– Sophomore middle blocker Katarina Milojevic recorded six blocks while Olivia Fraser and Alex Laton each added four rejections as the Eckerd College volleyball program asserted itself with an overwhelming defensive effort against Lynn University on Friday night, 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-16).

The Tritons (20-7, 11-2 SSC) had six blocks in the first set alone against the Fighting Knights (14-10, 4-8 SSC) and held their opponent to just a .129 attacking percentage to complete another regular-season sweep.

The EC defense forced Lynn into 22 hitting errors in the three-set affair. It marked the sixth straight match where the Tritons have held their opponent to a hitting clip in the .100's.

Eckerd extended its current win streak to nine straight and continued to strengthen its lock on a current No. 2 ranking in the South Region as the regular season winds down to a close.

Junior outside hitter Lindsay Biggs pounded down 13 kills as Eckerd hit .317 as a team. Biggs tied Emily Johnson (1999-2001) for fifth all-time among career kill leaders, currently sitting at 1,070 heading into tomorrow's home finale.

Biggs garnered CoSIDA Capital One First Team All-Academic honors earlier this week. Biggs and junior Kaleigh Humphrey contributed 10 kills.

Milojevic added seven kills (.467) to complement her impressive front line defensive totals and sophomore Ali McAlvany also attacked over the .400 clip, adding six kills to go with a match-high 16 digs.

Junior setter Madison Burr recorded 21 assists while freshman setter Emily Schadow served up four aces.

The Tritons started the evening on a 10-2 run before the Fighting Knights were able to settle in. Lynn closed the gap to a four-point differential in the opening set, but the Tritons scored the final three points to go up 1-0.

Back-to-back kills by junior middle blocker Jordan Miller infused the offense down the stretch in the second set and another junior, Ana de Olano, finished off the frame with a kill of her own.

A 10-3 run to begin the third set primed the Tritons for the straight-set decision.

The Fighting Knights were unable to get any closer than a seven-point margin in the final set as Milojevic scored three of the team's final four points.

The Tritons will honor their senior class of Taylor Whaley, Fraser and Laton, tomorrow afternoon against Nova Southeastern University in the McArthur Center at 4 p.m. Ceremonies are scheduled to begin prior to the opening introductions.
