Box Score
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – For the 10th time this season, the Eckerd College women's soccer program held an opponent off the scoreboard, effectively blanking Florida College on a beautiful Monday night at the Turley Athletic Complex, 4-0.
Senior
Dana Treat added to one of the finest seasons ever produced in school history with her team-leading eighth goal of the season.
All three eligibility classifications were represented as goal scorers on the scoresheet as junior
Mia Whylly, sophomore
Holly Buresh and freshman
Devon Morse, each helped pace a potent Eckerd offensive attack.
The Tritons defeated Florida College by the same score for the second time this year after EC began the fall with a 4-0 blanking in Temple Terrace.
With a berth to the postseason and accompanying Sunshine State Conference Tournament seemingly locked in as a No. 5 seed, EC turns its focus to Florida Southern College on Wednesday and a road trip to Barry University (both non-conference) to wrap up the regular season.
Depending on tiebreaker criteria, it appears Lynn University or Barry University will be the final team squeezed out in the SSC Tournament. The Tritons, although tied with Lynn and Barry, with 10 points in the league standings, own head-to-head tiebreaker conditions.
The Falcons (5-6-3 overall) bent but didn't break against the Tritons (9-5-2, 3-4-1 SSC) in the first half of action even though EC peppered the opposing target with 16 shots in the first 45 minutes.
Treat, a three-year letterwinner and team captain, was honored before the game to celebrate a pre-Senior Day ceremony as her parents, Taylor and Jane, both stood proudly on the field after making the trip from Rhode Island.
With eight goals and five assists this season, Treat moved into a tie for the eighth-most points recorded in a single season, equaling Stephanie Schwobe's 21-point output in 1999. She also tied Kelly Gilbert for the eighth-most goals in a season and moved up to sixth all-time in career points with 28.
Another record may be ready to crumble as sophomore standout goalkeeper
Morgan Crescent tied the school's longstanding single-season record for shutouts as she made three more saves.
She held an opponent of the scoreboard for the sixth time this season, tying the mark previous set by alum Kathy Atkins over a decade ago back in 2001.
Morse broke the scoreless tie six minutes into the second half after splitting the defense and netting her third goal of the season. The eventual game-winner set the precedent for a scoring outburst by the Tritons as they finally made inroads against the stingy Falcons.
In the 58th minute, Treat faked out FC keeper Jasmine Jacobs to her right and calmly pushed home a left-footed shot on a feed from sophomore
Arie Anahory, her ninth of the year.
Anahory now ranks second all-time for assists in a single season, passing Dawn Delo's eight handed out in 2000.
Whylly scored in a timely sequence after her shot bounced off a Florida College defender while the ball crossed the plane of the net. Freshman
Haley Burger was credited with the assist as Whylly scored her second goal of the fall.
Buresh capped the scoring just two minutes later, crashing the box on a precise corner kick from
Adrianna Garcia on the far side. For Buresh, also listed as a goalkeeper on the roster, it was her first collegiate points.
The Tritons will honor Treat again with the remainder of her senior teammates on Wednesday prior to the match against Florida Southern. Senior Day ceremonies will begin at 6:45 p.m. in preparation for a 7 p.m. start time.
