	ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Freshman
Abbey Walter converted a penalty kick in the 39th minute and the Eckerd College women's soccer program surged to its third consecutive win on Tuesday night, blanking Lynn University, 1-0.

Walter scored her second goal of the season five minutes before halftime as she won the head-to-head matchup against Lynn goalkeeper Kelsey Butler. She kept the ball low and slotted it left on the ground to find the back of the net.

Walter was fouled in the box shortly after subbing in to earn the dead-ball opportunity.

“I tried to be confident and calm,” Walter said. “We are playing well as a team and our defense was very strong tonight.”

The Tritons (5-2-2, 3-1-1 SSC) are now in sole possession of second place in the Sunshine State Conference standings, picking up three more points to leap over the Fighting Knights (3-6-1, 3-3 SSC), who came in tonight with nine.

EC only trails the University of Tampa (4-1 SSC) at the top of the conference standings. The Spartans held on to beat Barry earlier tonight.

For a team that was picked to finish last in the league in the SSC Preseason Coaches Poll before the fall started, the Tritons are continuing to make a resounding statement on the pitch.

Eckerd had rallied in its last two league wins against Saint Leo University and Barry University, but locked down defensively the rest of the way in this contest to record the shutout, yielding just two shots in the second half.

The Tritons defense was swarming to the ball and made it difficult for Lynn to get any threatening looks at the net.

	Sophomore goalkeeper
Morgan Crescent kept the Fighting Knights in check with six saves as she faced 14 total shots on the night. She finished with her fourth shutout of the season.

The Tritons recorded seven shots against Butler with Walter's game winner the only strike on goal

The Tritons have their sights set on the Florida Christian College Suns with a non-conference matchup next on the schedule. EC will take on Florida Christian on Thursday at the Turley Athletic Complex beginning at 7 p.m.
