Women’s Soccer “Kicks For A Cure” in Shutout Against Ave Maria University, 5-0

Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
– The Eckerd College women's soccer program opened up the offense as five different players scored to help pitch a non-conference shutout against Ave Maria University on Friday's “Kick For A Cure” night.

Eckerd contributed to the Susan G. Komen foundation by supporting breast cancer awareness. All proceeds from concessions and admission will be donated to the worthy cause.

In addition, nearly $100 was raised during halftime alone and a successful raffle with various prizes was conducted. Players wore pink uniforms, socks and the game was played with color-appropriate soccer balls at the Turley Athletic Complex.

EC also was joined in pre-game introductions by members of the U-12 Tampa Bay United club team. The Tritons signed autographs for their admiring fans after the game.

Senior Dana Treat scored her team-leading seventh goal and assisted another, her fifth helper of the season.

Sophomore Arie Anahory netted her fourth goal of the fall, while freshmen Devon Morse and Abbey Walter also found the net. Senior Meredith Mahoney helped balance out the scoresheet with a header in the second half.

Senior Emily Johnson and sophomore Sarah Trumbull each recorded assists.

The Tritons (8-5-2, 3-4-1 SSC) have now outscored non-conference opponents 26-1 in five matches played this season. The Gyrenes (2-11, 0-8 TSC) finished with three shots on the evening.

Morse opened a flurry of first-half scoring in the 12th minute. Nine minutes later Anahory scored in unassisted fashion and the Tritons would strike once more in the first half in the 29th minute as Walter tallied her third goal of the season.

Holding a 3-0 lead at the intermission, new personnel on the field continued to be productive as Mahoney and Treat added to the lead in the final period.

Sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Crescent played the first half in net before being relieved in the second half by sophomore Lauren Fernandez.

The Tritons had 21 shots to Ave Maria's three. AMU goalkeeper Kayle Hanel had a busy night and made 12 saves.

Eckerd will host Florida College on Monday at the Turley Athletic Complex. The match will start at 7 p.m. and the team's fundraising drawing will also be held that evening.
