ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Daniel Petitbon went 3-for-4 with four RBIs to lead visiting Nova Southeastern to a 10-5 win over the Eckerd College baseball team on Sunday afternoon at the Turley Athletic Complex.
Mauricio Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, and Andrew Durden added two hits – including a two-run home run. NSU (22-10, 9-3 Sunshine State Conference) tallied 14 hits overall.
Wess Hollins hit a two-run home run for the Tritons (12-15, 1-8), while Bryant Gibson had two hits and a stolen base. Eckerd, which split a doubleheader with the Sharks on Saturday, was limited to seven hits.
The Sharks used a four-run third inning to jump ahead, highlighted by an RBI single from Petitbon and Durden's two-run home run over the left-field wall.
That was all the offense NSU right-hander Chris Roman (2-0) needed. The senior tossed six shutout innings, scattering four hits while striking out four.
The Sharks eventually got the lead up to 10-0 in the eighth before Hollins broke the shutout with a two-run home run to left. The Tritons scored three runs in the ninth thanks to five NSU walks.
Eckerd will continue its 10-game homestand with a 7 p.m. contest against Southeastern (Fla.) on Monday.
