WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Eckerd College baseball team used a six-run fifth inning to rally for an 8-4 win at Rollins in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Alfond Stadium.
Wess Hollins hit a three-run triple, and the Tritons took advantage of eight walks and four Rollins errors to salvage a doubleheader split.
In the opener, Josh Band went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and three runs scored to lead the Tars to a 10-3 victory.
In the finale, Eckerd trailed 4-0 after four innings. But Rollins was hampered with three walks and two errors in the fifth, eventually leading to an RBI walk for
Alex Del Monte and Hollins' bases-loaded triple.
Stephen Pelc capped the scoring with a two-out RBI single. Eckerd (15-21, 3-12 Sunshine State Conference) added two insurance runs in the seventh thanks to
Bryant Gibson's two-run triple.
In the opener, Rollins broke open a 3-3 tie with a seven-run fifth inning, which was aided by four Eckerd errors.
The Tritons struggled with six errors in the game.
Kevin Rea went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Del Monte went 1-for-3 with an RBI double.
Shane Bishop also provided an RBI single.
Sean Reilly and Greg Smith each went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored for Rollins (21-19, 3-12). Kevin Mager tallied three hits and scored a run.
The Tritons recorded their first SSC series win of the year after taking a 4-3 win on Friday night.
Eckerd will travel to Warner (Fla.) for a noon doubleheader on Tuesday.
