Del Monte Provides Second Straight Win For Baseball

Eckerd-Rollins Box Score

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Eckerd College shortstop Alex Del Monte provided the winning run for the second consecutive game, as his RBI double in the eighth inning lifted the visiting Tritons to a 4-3 win at Rollins on Friday.

Del Monte hit an RBI double to left-center field, scoring Bryant Gibson who led off the inning with a single, as Eckerd (14-20, 2-11 Sunshine State Conference) picked up its first league road win of the year.

Dan Capra went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored, while Stephen Pelc provided a two-run single.

Zach Persky went 3-for-4 and scored a run for Rollins (20-18, 2-11), which dropped its fourth straight.

Right-hander Joe Clagg (1-1) got the win in relief of starter Joey Cuda, who gave up two runs (one earned) in six innings.

After the Tars tied the game at 3-3 in the seventh on an RBI single by Tony Brunetti, the Tritons responded in their next at-bat.

Gibson led off the eighth with an infield hit and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Shane Bishop (1-for-3, RBI single). Rollins brought in reliever Adam Ogburn to face Del Monte, but the junior – whose 11th-inning RBI single defeated Webber International on Wednesday – got Gibson home with his sixth extra-base hit of 2011.

Right-hander Robbie Nabers tossed two scoreless innings to get the save.

The two teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
