ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Eckerd College shortstop
Alex Del Monte tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with an RBI single and won it with a run-scoring single in the 11th, as the host-Tritons took a 5-4 win over visiting Webber International on Wednesday.
Del Monte went 3-for-6, and
Bryant Gibson added three hits and an RBI, as the Tritons (13-20) avenged a 3-1 loss to WIU (26-20) last Wednesday.
Joe McLemore (2-0) picked up the win, tossing three shutout innings while recording six strikeouts.
Alex Martinez went 4-for-6 for the Warriors, and Derek Self and Hunter Ovens each had two hits and an RBI.
Eckerd was trailing 4-2 in the eighth before
Stephen Pelc cut the deficit to 3-2 with a two-out RBI single.
The Tritons picked up a run in the ninth off WIU closer Carlo Galluccio thanks to Del Monte's two-out, run-scoring single.
Eckerd loaded the bases with no outs in the 11th, and Del Monte lifted a deep fly ball to right field to cap the rally.
Eckerd will open a Sunshine State Conference series on Friday with a 6 p.m. contest at Rollins.
