MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry took advantage of four errors en route to a 3-0 win over the visiting Eckerd College softball team on Saturday.
The Bucs (16-4, 4-0 Sunshine State Conference) scored two unearned runs in the first inning and added another in the fifth to spoil the league debut for Eckerd (8-13, 0-1).
Alyssa Goldsmith went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Grace Collins was 1-for-3 with two runs scored for Barry. Brianna Smith (7-3) tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits while working around three walks. Smith also struck out nine.
Right-hander Alex Sasso (3-6) got the hard-luck loss for the Tritons, though the junior did not allow an earned run in six innings.
The two teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday.
