ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Eckerd College junior Joe McLemore hit two home runs and reached base safely in all six at-bats to lead the Tritons to a 19-9 win over Concordia College (N.Y.) on Sunday afternoon at the Turley Athletic Complex.
McLemore hit a three-run home run and a two-run shot to help Eckerd (7-3) rally from an early 6-0 deficit. He also walked four times.
Freshman right-hander Richard Cruz-Sanchez (1-0) shook off some early struggles to earn the win in his first collegiate appearance.
The Tritons recorded a season-high 18 hits, with three players recording three hits. Bryant Gibson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Wess Hollins and David Regidor each went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Joe Gallub went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored to lead the Clippers (0-3).
Concordia put up six runs in the first inning to grab a quick lead. The Clippers had seven straight hitters reach base during the frame.
But Eckerd fought back with three runs in the first thanks to McLemore's three-run blast and added five in the second off Concordia right-hander Anthony Barone (0-1).
The Tritons scored four runs in the third to take a 12-6 lead and put the game away with five runs in the fifth.
Eckerd will wrap up a five-game homestand with a 7 p.m. contest against St. Anselm (N.H.) on Tuesday at the Turley Athletic Complex.
