Florida Southern Holds On To Top Women's Basketball

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Megan Dzikas scored 21 points and was one of four starters in double figures, as visiting Florida Southern held on for a 77-69 win over the Eckerd College women's basketball team on Wednesday at the McArthur Center.

Chelsea Johnson had 19 points, while Michaela Hawley added 18 for the Mocs (19-4, 11-2 Sunshine State Conference). Emma Cannon had 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Lotte Tobiasen scored a career-high 25 points for Eckerd (14-10, 7-7) and was 10-for-15 from the field. Kati Rausberg tallied 12 points, while Linsey Niles contributed 11.

Florida Southern was 11-for-26 from 3-point range (42 percent) and made seven treys in the first half. The Mocs jumped out to an 18-3 lead thanks to four 3-pointers in the first five minutes.

The visitors led 40-28 at halftime and led by as many as 21 points in the second half.

But Eckerd outscored the Mocs 17-8 during the final four minutes and cut the deficit to 73-67 with 1:03 remaining.

Florida Southern out-rebounded Eckerd 38-27 and scored 20 second-chance points.

The Tritons will travel to Florida Tech for a 2 p.m. SSC contest on Saturday.
