PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Eckerd College volleyball team kept piling it on in the win column, collecting respective victories over the University of Alabama-Huntsville, 3-0, and Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University, 3-1, to conclude the West Florida Regional Crossover on Saturday.
The Tritons (16-3, 6-2 SSC) completed a perfect weekend against non-conference regional competition and extended their win streak to seven games. Eckerd beat Valdosta State (Ga.) University on Friday's action.
Eckerd defeated Alabama-Huntsville for its 10th sweep of the season by scores of 25-18, 25-9 and 26-24, while taking down Christian Brothers in a four-set battle, 25-23, 25-21, 21-25 and 25-16.
Lindsay Biggs and
Ariana Chinn were each selected to the all-tournament team as voted by the coaches.
EC hit the court at 10 a.m. and doubled up Alabama-Huntsville (7-16 overall) in total kills, 46-23, in an impressive straight-set triumph. The Tritons held the Chargers to a .120 hitting percentage while
Ariana Chinn had a team-high 11 kills to pace .365 attacking clip.
The Tritons nearly led wire-to-wire against UAH, yielding just the opening point in the second set for their lone deficit of the match.
Biggs totaled nine kills, junior
Alex Laton added eight and
Hallie Ward led all players with 14 digs.
Current Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week
Olivia Fraser recorded seven kills on just nine swings (.778).
Setter
Madison Burr, coming off a season-high 44 assists on Friday, tallied 30 more against Alabama-Huntsville.
Against Christian Brothers, the Tritons were keyed by a trio of players with double-digit kill totals, including 13 from Chinn, a dozen by Biggs and 11 from Fraser. Burr and
Bri Smith combined to set the table for a combined 47 assists.
Eckerd cruised out to a two-set lead before the talented Bucs (18-5 overall) eventually thwarted a sweep attempt by winning the third frame.
The offense erupted out to a 9-3 lead in the fourth set and the Tritons wouldn't look back. Eckerd ended the match with an 8-1 run.
EC transitions back into conference play next week against Florida Tech in Melbourne for a Tuesday evening matchup beginning at 7 p.m.
