PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The Eckerd College volleyball team split its first two matches of the Comfort Inn-Vitational on Friday at the University of West Florida.
The Tritons (1-1) swept Wilmington 3-0 in the season opener on Friday afternoon before dropping a 3-0 decision to tournament-host UWF Friday evening.

PENSACOLA, Fla. --
Kaleigh Humphrey led a balanced Triton offense with nine kills, as the Eckerd College volleyball team opened the 2010 season with a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-20, 25-22) against Wilmington (Del.) on Friday at the Comfort Inn-Vitational.
Humphrey was one of five Tritons to record 10 or more attacks and was part of a young lineup for Eckerd (1-0). The Tritons used four freshmen and three sophomores overall.
Sophomore middle blocker
Olivia Fraser had eight kills and five block assists, while fellow sophomore
Taylor Whaley tallied seven kills and eight digs.
Freshman hitter
Lindsay Biggs had six kills and a team-high eight block assists. The Tritons held Wilmington (0-1) to a .099 hit percentage.
All three sets were close early on, but the Tritons finished each one nicely. Eckerd won six of the last eight points to take the first set before getting seven of the final 10 points in the second. The Tritons were down 22-19 in the final set before closing the match with six straight points.
Bri Smith directed the offense to a .196 hit percentage and had 29 assists. Junior
Hallie Ward had a match-high 13 digs.

PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Florida's Katie Johnson had a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs, as the Argonauts took a 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-11, 25-18) over visiting Eckerd College on Friday evening at the Comfort Inn-Vitational.
Jamie Nichols had nine kills on just 12 attacks, and Lindsay Homme had five kills on seven swings. UWF (2-0) hit an impressive .376 overall.
Eckerd struggled early, recording eight attack errors in the first set. The Argos got their offense going in the second set, hitting .500 with 15 kills combined with only two errors.
The Tritons had a little success in the final set, recording 11 kills and hitting .219, but UWF continued its good night with a .367 clip to wrap up the sweep.
Eckerd was credited with six service aces, including five from freshman setter Madison Burr.
The Tritons will continue the two-day tournament at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday against West Alabama.
