BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Eckerd baseball team defeated the Webber International Warriors 4-2 at the Heart of Florida Medical Center Field Tuesday night on the campus of WIU. Eckerd is now 19-26, while the Warriors drop to 24-31.
The Tritons jumped on board first as Joe Dabah doubled to the right-center field fence to bring home Minner Labrador to make it a 1-0 game. Eckerd was able to tag on more runs in the top of the sixth inning off a passed ball that brought in Wess Hollins and Dan Branca's triple down the right field line that brought home Labrador and Dabah. Webber was able to add runs of their own during their at bats of the inning off a wild pitch and a base hit through the right side to make it a 4-2 ball game. Both teams put runners on bases for the remainder of the game, but were unable to score runs, giving Eckerd the victory.
The Webber pitching staff tossed a four-hit loss, which the hits came from Chris Clinton, Labrador, Dabah, and Branca. Anthony Katchuk earned the win tonight, pitching six innings, giving up six hits, two runs, one walk, and struck out four batters, while Francisco Collazo earned his sixth save of the season, pitching the final inning of the ball game, retiring the side by striking out three batters. Johnny Lancaster made an appearance on the mound for the Tritons, pitching two innings while giving up one run, one walk, and struck out one batter.
Eckerd will play their final games of the season this weekend as they travel over to Saint Leo University to take on the Lions for their Sunshine State Conference series. The series opener takes place Friday, which will start at 6:00 pm.
