ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Joe Dabah picked up five hits, while Chris Clinton and Wess Hollins each collected four each as the Eckerd College baseball team was swept by the Rollins Tars Saturday afternoon at the Turley Athletic Complex. Rollins defeated Eckerd 18-6 in game one, then coming back in game two to defeat the Tritons 12-5.
In game one, Rollins put runs on first, scoring seven runs in the first two innings of the game. Eckerd answered back in the second inning, scoring four runs. Three back-to-back base hits drove in the runs for the Tritons, which were off the bats of David Regidor, Minner Labrador, and Dabah. However, Rollins would put more runs on the board, scoring 11 runs between the fourth and seventh innings to give them a total of 18 runs. The Tritons would only be able to put two runs on the board the rest of the game, making it an 18-6 final. Jay Moroff took the loss for the Tritons, while William Krasne took the victory for the Tars.
Game two started off differently for both teams, as it was a 2-2 game up until the third inning. Rollins would quickly take the lead, scoring two runs in the fourth and eight in the sixth inning to make it a 12-2 game. Eckerd wouldn't sit back quietly, as they threatened a come back in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring three runs to cut the lead down to 12-5. Matt Abraham started the two-out rally that inning, hitting a double to right field. He scored on Aaron Shapiro's base hit to left field the very next at bat, making it a 12-3 game. With the bases loaded, Clinton was able to single in Shapiro and Stephen Pelc to give Eckerd two more runs before the Tars pitcher struck out the following batter to end the game. Starting pitcher Joey Cuda suffered the loss.
The Tritons will return to the field as they get set to host Webber International University on Tuesday, April 20th. The first pitch will be thrown at 7:00 pm.
