Softball Falls 7-2 to No. 8 Tars in SSC Series Opener

WINTER PARK, Fla. - After having the 2-1 lead for the first four innings of the game, the Eckerd College softball team dropped their series opener to Rollins College, 7-2, after the Tars scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and one in the sixth Friday night at Lake Island Park.

The Tritons scored first against the No. 8 Tars in the first inning with Kristen Schurr connecting for her sixth home-run of the season to bring home Emma Docking to make it a 2-0 game.  Rollins quickly answered back with a run of their own, scoring an unearned run on a stolen base attempt to cut the lead to 2-1.  However, Rollins would attack again as they scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the 6-2 lead from the Tritons.  The Tars would eventually tag on one more run in the sixth, making the final score 7-2.

Alex Sasso suffered the loss for Eckerd.  She pitched 4.1 innings, giving up six hits, six runs, and two walks.  Mackenzie Dawson made an appearance on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up three hits and one run.  Kirsten Frame was the winning pitcher for Rollins, pitching seven innings, giving up two runs, two walks, struck out four batters, and gave up three hits, two of which came off the bat of Docking and one from Schurr.

Eckerd will conclude their series with the Tars tomorrow in double-header action.  First pitch will be thrown at 1:00 pm.
