PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Eckerd College women's basketball team held Alabama-Huntsville to 22 percent shooting in the second half to rally for a 68-57 win on Saturday afternoon at the Highpointe Hotel Corporation Classic.
Kati Rausberg and Tijana Brdar combined for 29 points, and Krystal Charles finished a strong weekend with 12 points and 12 rebounds, as Eckerd (5-2) salvaged a split in the two-day tournament.
Charles also had eight assists, two shy of her first career triple-double. For her efforts, Charles was named to the All-Tournament team.
Rausberg had 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and helped the Tritons shoot 53 percent in the second half. The offensive output overshadowed a stingy defensive effort that limited UAH to just six field goals in the final half.
“I was proud of the adjustments we were able to make throughout the course of the game,” said Eckerd head coach Paul Honsinger. “We were able to overcome some cold shooting against their zone, and Krystal had a great all-around game.”
The Tritons were just 3-for-14 from 3-point range in the opening half, as UAH grabbed a 36-32 lead at halftime. The Lady Chargers stretched their advantage to 42-34 with 16:47 left following a Jasmine Hammon 3-pointer.
But Eckerd went on a 12-1 run during a four-minute stretch to grab a 60-50 lead with 3:50 remaining. UAH went 0-for-6 from the field and had three turnovers during the run.
Charles had nine points, seven rebounds and five assists in the final half.
Hammon had a game-high 19 points for UAH (2-5).
Eckerd will return to action at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Northwood (Fla.).
