Kati Rausberg registered a career-high 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, to lead the Eckerd Tritons (3-3) past the West Alabama Tigers (2-4), 76-68, on Saturday afternoon in day two of the UWF Argo Classic at the UWF Fieldhouse.
In the first half, after the Tigers' Qweetta Ward made a bucket to put West Alabama within one at 22-21,
Ashley Lutz scored seven unanswered points over the next three minutes to expand Eckerd's lead to 29-21 with 6:46 to play. After a three by UWA's Dakota Powell trimmed Eckerd's lead to 32-28 with 1:08 to play,
Taylor Young knocked down a pair of free throws to send the Tritons into the locker room ahead 34-28 at the half.
In the second half, the Tritons maintained their lead despite an improved offensive output from the Tigers. After a pair of UWA free throws made it 34-32 with 17:30 left to play, the Tritons would score nine out of the next 10 points, making it 43-32 on a jumper by
Jordan Stacey with 15:14 to go.
The Tritons would then go on a 15-2 run over the course of four minutes as Rausberg scored eight points in that time frame to push the Eckerd lead to 58-37 with 10:29 left.
For the remainder of the game West Alabama continued to battle the Tritons but it was only for posterity's sake as the Tigers could only trim Eckerd's lead to eight en route to a 76-68 final score.
For the game, the Tritons shot 51.9 percent from the field in contrast to just 44.4 percent for West Alabama. The Tigers out-rebounded Eckerd, 33-29. Lutz scored 11 points while Stacey added 10 points and seven rebounds and seven assists. Brittany Yeager led the Tigers with 21 points and seven boards.
