Men's Basketball Downed by Saint Augustine's

Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG,
Fla. - Eckerd sophomore guard Wayne Sears led all scorers with 23 points off the bench but the Falcons of Saint Augustine's (6-1) proved to be too much for the Eckerd Tritons (5-2), handing the Tritons their first home loss of the season, 76-69 on Tuesday evening at the McArthur Center.

After the Falcons went into the half with a 40-30 lead, SAC expanded its lead as far as 69-53 with 4:26 to go after an and-one on a dunk by Jeremy Banks. With two minutes to go, Eckerd employed a full court trap, which forced two key turnovers enabling the Tritons to trim their deficit to 71-67 with 44 seconds to go on one of four made threes by Sears.

Unfortunately for Eckerd, the Falcons refused to miss from the free throw line down the stretch, going 25-for-31 from the charity stripe in the game, to seal the seven-point victory.

John Harper added 13 points while Adio Faucher and Woody Taylor led all players with nine rebounds and five assists, respectively. Chris Jordan led the Falcons with 17 points.

Eckerd will return to the hardwood on Monday, Dececmber 21 as it travels to Tampa, Fla. to face Delta State at 5:30pm.
