BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons men's basketball team dropped a road contest to the Lynn Fighting Knights on Wednesday by a score of 92-72.
Baskets by Koa Baker and Dante Bouchard gave the Tritons an early lead in the opening minutes, and the two teams battled to an 8-8 deadlock around the 16-minute mark. An Eckerd three-pointer broke the tie and jump-started an 8-2 scoring run for Eckerd that featured a pair of threes by Miquel Llompart and a layup from Wyatt Triestman to push the score to 16-10.
The Tritons remained in front over the next five minutes, but the Fighting Knights inched closer and eventually reclaimed the lead at 22-21 nearing the halfway point of the period. Lynn extended the cushion to double figures at 35-25, but consecutive threes by Llompart and Triestman, along with a putback from Timothy Thompson, highlighted a 13-3 scoring run that evened the game at 38. The Fighting Knights scored eight of the half's final 10 points to take a 46-40 lead into the halftime break. Both teams shot around 40 percent, but Lynn made two more three-pointers than Eckerd and held a plus-six advantage at the free-throw line.
Llompart scored the first six points of the second half for Eckerd to pull the Tritons within two at 48-46 in the opening 90 seconds. Lynn used the next five minutes to stretch the margin back to seven, but five quick points from Triestman and Thompson cut the deficit back down to two once more. The Tritons closed within one point on three different occasions over the next two minutes before the teams endured a three-minute scoreless drought. An 11-0 run by the Fighting Knights followed, and the home team closed the game on a 30-11 run to pull away for the win.
Triestman led the Tritons with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Llompart added 21 points.
Eckerd will close out the regular season Saturday against Barry.Â
